Ian Byrne MP

Ian Byrne MP

Ian Byrne is the recently-elected MP for Liverpool West Derby. He is dedicated to ending food poverty and a co-founder of Fans Supporting Foodbanks, which collects food and supplies for foodbanks at Liverpool and Everton matches. Ian is a passionate support of the Right to Food. He is a member of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee and the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee.

In an age when the spectres of inequality and poverty define many of our communities, the importance of a Labour movement that rejects austerity and tackles the roots causes of these twin evils is never more crucial. We must provide a voice for the millions suffering abuses to their rights and fight for the solutions to fix the structural imbalances that will free people from these evils. The Labour Campaign for Human Rights (LCHR) is fighting for our right to food to be recognised which I believe will help to address the issues of food poverty in Britain. LCHR will play a central role in pushing for this, and other changes, in the ongoing struggle to rewire the structure of a society so it works for the many.
